I love it. I've been listening to this CD for years and never get tired of it. :) I love every song on this CD. My two favorite's are Every Word and By Your Side.
Sade will always be a part of my music collection. Her voice captures all those emotions and lulls you into that 'special' place in your heart. I've been listening to Sade since her debut and she never ceases to amaze me with wonderful vocals. From start to finish, each of her CD's tells a series of stories that anyone who's been in love can relate to.
As usual, the band's competence is in tact, grooving along to its fullest groove, brought way down by Ms. You wake up from slumber unperturbed; you stretch your arms in new relaxation.only to feel conned all over again. Nothing is more brain atrophying than being conned by someone you initially had such hopes for. Adu's emotionless non-voice. My grade: C+ For 15 years before the release of 'Lovers Rock' in 2001, I've grasped onto an iota of desperation that she will at the very least equal her enjoyable-cum-guilty pleasure debut in 1985. But all that's manifested every few years - as well as on 'Lovers Rock' - is a DOA compendium of lethargic tunes whispered in a voice so consistent in its tone-deaf monotony it's actually soporific.
I'm sorry, I love most of Sade's work, but I don't rate a CD 4 or 5 stars simply because I like the artist as a whole. And where's her band.
Anyway, I had to add this to balance all the 4 and 5 star reviews. I don't believe they're on here- and they're sorely missed- there's no sax, and the drum machine is VERY annoying.
Take a look at all the 4 and 5 star reviews. It's simply boring.
Her other albums are 4 and 5 star, not this one. nearly every one praises Sade the artist, her voice, how we fell in love with her first album, etc.
If you look for honest reviews of this CD, I agree with them- this is easily her weakest work.
I love this entire CD and have been a huge fan of Sade ever since she first hit the scene. I even scratched my first copy of this one some how and without hesitation, went out and bought another one. Little did I know that I would love it, and have since bought everything she has ever put out and not once been disappointed. "Lovers Rock" is definitely in the same category as all the rest of them and I am total agreement with another reviewer here.
I don't think it's possible for any one to improve or "Capture" the unique vibe she brings to every piece. Her voice is instantly recognizable which to me just means, she is an all time great, and one that can't be imitated. Not only is she that good. On a different note, I don't know who sang it or which song it was but I recall hearing on the radio someone attempting one of her songs. There are a lot of singers and poets I admire, and Sade is both although most don't think of it that way, but there is one Lady out there, who has her own style and captures the kind of magic Sade always captures, and that would be Rachael Bell or also known as Rachael, Rachael. I think that some people can redo songs by others and sound good or in some cases even sound better, but. I was in Germany when I got her first ALBUM, and I have to be honest, I didn't buy it because I loved her music just then, I bought it because of the beautiful woman on the cover.
She always has been. I would truly love to see them put on a show together:)Your Chance to Hear The Last Panther Speak She has always made great music, and everything on them is something to love. If it says "Sade" on it, I'll own it.
